New traffic rules: Dubai to Impound Vehicles for Up to 30 Days for 14 Traffic Offences
Dubai Police will now impound vehicles for up to 30 days for offences like using mobile phones while driving, tailgating, and sudden deviations. These offences also carry fines of Dh400 to Dh1,000 and four black points. Heavy vehicles not following lane discipline will face the same penalty.
Additionally, offences like dangerous overtaking, reversing dangerously, and stopping without reason will lead to a 14-day impoundment. Last year, a Dh50,000 fee was introduced for releasing vehicles seized for serious violations like reckless driving and red-light running. In the first half of 2024, reckless driving caused 94 accidents in Dubai. A recent survey revealed one in three drivers use phones while driving, even though 90% agree it's dangerous.
